Schnitzels, Paris, Ham and cheese roll overload……..
Wow – German gigs were amazing – a lovely two night stand in Hamburg at the Prinzenbar was ace…we squeezed on the stage and played really deep sets of the enw stuff mixed with a few from the past – it was a great vibe 0 in fact – every gig blew our minds really…even the ones we thought might be a bit random were great – our memories are very hazy – especially after the KILLER Berlin show…..i introduced the boys, via The Olli, to Erika’s Eck in hamburg – schnitzel like seriously schnitzel – it was full of taxi drivers….and we eat literally as much as we physically could, while in the kitchen you can hear them beating the schnitzels into shape with like Schnitzel Slappers or something – probably bats….it was great – only the human dustbin Mr. T could finish his – in an admirable show of discipline and gluttony….our support guy, Ben Howard, was really blowing minds too – his tasty little 30 minutes were a real highlight – we have definitely all found a new favorite singer songwriter out there – wonderful skills, great songs, amazing voice – he was killing it…can’t wait to run out there with him again
Then onto Paris where we absolutely had one of our best shows ever at the beautiful and intimate Café De La Danse….amazing audience – it was a really great night for us, ands my friends J and S blagged me some stuff from Galliano….the sleeves are crazy…..just an amazing night – the new stuff sounded awesome – sort of revolution was really tight….just magical – followed by a random gig in a tent in switzerland – a 6 hour drive through the mountains, some amazing views, and a little tent soundsystem that gave robalicious (our sound guy) a heart attack – we actually had a real fine gig….we let off some steam after such a high pressure Paris show….
So massive thanks and love to everyone who came down, whether it was Stuttgart on a Monday night or Berlin on a Friday – we had a great first tour of germany – plans already to return in the autumn….
Right now I’m in LA, next week NY – so living out of a bag is definitely my life right now….in the past month I have been home for 48 hours – but hey! – my home hasn't got a pool on the roof and panoramic views of LA……so – plusses and minuses y’know….
Happy days….

Just got back from Amsterdam and Rotterdam, – two of our favorite venues – the delicious Rotown where we had a great gig – roadtested See It All and Sort Of Revolution – it was great, Bitterzoet was the same as it was a in 07 – the drum kit that lives under the stage was held together with faith, and some of Mr. T’s hardware was literally made out of bits and pieces – but it worked…..did acres of press yesterday in Holland…..like from 2 ‘til 6, then soudncheck, then more until onstage – necessary evil – although press days are kinda great – you get to meet and talk with people who have invariably heard all three albums – so you get a really good kinda dissection….
unlike with Q or Uncut, who like didn’t slam the record, didn't really listen to the record ether to be honest, but the most interesting thing they could muster was “ex dj from brighton does 3rd album on ninja” – like – seriously – that’s the most interesting thing to say – really – I’d rather they slammed the record and poured hate all over it (that reminds me, hope Vice weren’t sent a copy – although to get they’re coveted “worst cover of the month” would be awesome – they reviewed our Sideshow Record in the German issue with the closing line “only an arseface would like this” J – it’s an honour for them to hate me…it is honestly my favorite magazine ever wth the best and most interesting, daring and courageous edtorial anywhere…but hey, maybe the translation is not correct….ahem….)…..Mr. T was particularly chuffed to get a positive review in the NME…..his first…..
yeah – it’s been pretty hectic – we did The Great Escape festival in Brighton too – hometown gig…..the running order was all wrong so I think 250 people thought we were Bombay Bicycle Club – we followed a 9 piece Indian proggy indy group who didn't have a soundcheck….so the sound guys and the techies on that stage deserve a medal….there were definitely a few purple hearts that night on stage !!!….then Paris for the wonderful Radio Nova night – they treat us like family and the feeling is mutual….i heard See it All on the radio for the first time over there – it sunded great, and Gilles Peterson is playing “Q&A”, our first ever play from him…..we played a gorgeous soundmans nightmare in Brussels – the Rotunde….which was so silent I could literally hear my foot tap on the stage….really vibey gig….the Austro goth Soap And Skin also mesmorised the same audience after us, even beginning one of her tracks with a piano version of an Aphex Twin track…heavy
I love putting out a new album….stuff just starts happening......by the way – physical is out there this week so grab it while there are still stocks left of the trendy biodegradable soft case kinda fold out vibe…., and mad love to I:Tunes for giving us all the love they possibly could, here in Europe and in the USA…..we’re trying to get onto the Itunes festival – it’s all pretty political and a major label lock out right now but we’re trying, with I:Tunes, to find a way…..love those guys…..and getting onto the Radiohead playlist with Q&A has made us feel great - that and a booking for our first glasto (The Greenpeace stage)....new album....
Massive love to everyone who managed to get in to the London shows last week too…..as a band we were just loving the vibe – and Ben Howard mesmorised em too wth his tap-alicious guitar styles….Johnny, our sound guy, whose first gig was a horrific live check festival experience, excelled himself, with the venue telling us afterwards that it was the best sound they'd ever had…..big praise…..now – I’m hust packing to get out on tour of germany….Hamburg, Berlin, Paris….can't wait…....havn't lived off european motorway food for, erm....m a few weeks now - i think i'm in ham and cheese roll withdrawal.....
